ANAMBRA: The Anambra State House of Assembly’s recently recognized Ocha Brigade have been accused by one Uchenna Nwakalor, taskforce member of Amalgamated Traders Association of Anambra State (AMATAS) to be operating an illegal detention cum extortion camp at Agu Awka where the Gov. Obiano’s ‘police’ dumps their arrested victims and allegedly collects bail fee after series of torture.
Narrating his ordeal after allegedly buying his freedom from the hands of Ocha Brigade, the latest victim (Uchenna Nwakalor) who works with Onitsha South Shop Owners said; “on April 11, 2017 at Street, the Ocha Brigade operatives, a private security firm of the state government descended on me, collected N4,000 on me and pushed me inside their already awaiting vehicle before they drove me to their Agu Awka Office”, he narrated.
Alleging that the agent of the state government collected the AMATAS ticket duly issued to for the collection of welfare dues from Mercedes 608 and 911 by the Onitsha South Street Traders union executives, the latest victim said; “I was taken to Awka with other persons. We were maltreated. They didn’t give us any food, no water, they c
collected our handsets and intermittently they asked us to call somebody who will bail us”, said Nwakalor.
Adding that the staff of the Ocha Brigade took his passport size photograph like a common criminal, having allegedly maltreated him before his people rallied round to bail him after three days in their private cell in Awla, he went further and said;
“ I was bailed with N20,000 and they took my picture with the person who came to bail me, which we paid for and they did not return the N4,000 they collected from me when they abducted me. If you give them money to buy food while in detention, they will take it” he alleged.
When contacted, the Commander of Ocha Brigade, Mr. Kenneth Okonkwo, said he would not know the case of Nwakalor until he sees him face to face even as he bemoaned the rampant fake IGR tickets in the state.
He alleged that when an IGR window was issued to some people by the state government, some of the criminally minded contractors would go out of their way to duplicate the receipts and collect all sorts of money from people as if there is no government in the state.
Okonkwo denied operating private cell, noting that they carry policemen and soldiers in all their operation, claiming that they charge those arrested to court immediately.
