The Anambra state governor, Chief Willie Obiano has been described as the most police-friendly and security conscious governor in the country.
The observation was mad this afternoon in Awka by the Inspector General of Police(IGP), Ibrahim Idris when he took delivery of 50 new customized power motorbikes presented by the governor to the Nigeria Police Force, as part of efforts aimed at sustaining the onslaught against criminals in all the nook and crannies of the State.
The latest additional motorbikes were to complement the 50 earlier presented by the Governor sometime last year.
They were to assist the Police access easily areas where the use of vehicles may not be possible due to one reason or another.
The governor also presented 500 raincoats for Men and officers of the Force to use during the rainy season.
While presenting keys to the motorbikes to the IGP, Gov Obiano said that having crippled the command and control centers of criminal gangs in the state, it’s now moving from reactive approach to preemptive approach in crime fighting.
According to him, the bikes presents a viable option for effective grassroot policing and will help tackle small pockets of crimes in major flashpoints, assuring that security remains a priority for his administration.
Receiving the motorbikes, Mr Idris commended the governor for remaining true to his promise to provide effective security to Ndi Anambra.
He emphasized that what Anambra state government was doing is a clear example of the kind of partnership the Force require from state governments and should be emulated by all other governor’s in the country.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Sam Okaula said the gesture re-enforces the warning on criminals to stay away permanently from the state as the command was committed to the security task, assuring that the motorbikes will be put to proper use.
