“Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned so He may let them taste part of [the consequence of] what they have done that perhaps they will return [to righteousness]. Say, ‘Travel through the land and observe how was the end of those before them. Most of them were associators [of others with Allah]. So direct your face (self) towards the correct religion before a Day comes from Allah of which there is no repelling. That Day, they will be divided.”

“And We tested them with good [times] and bad that perhaps they would return [to obedience].”

“And We seized them with a severe punishment that perhaps they would return to faith.”

“And We will surely let them taste the nearer punishment short of the greater punishment that perhaps they will repent.”

“And We certainly sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muhammad], and We seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps they might humble themselves [to Us]. Then why, when Our punishment came to them, did they not humble themselves? But their hearts became hardened, and Shaitan (Satan) made attractive to them that which they were doing.”

“And We seized them with punishment, but they did not humble themselves to their Lord, nor did they invoke [Him] with submission to His will.”

“And We sent to no city a Prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah].”

“And cause not corruption upon the earth after its reformation. And invoke Him in fear and aspiration. Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good.”

“And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.”

“But whoever relies upon Allah – then indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.”

“And whoever is conscious of Allah – He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect. And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him.”

“Is the reward for good [anything] but good?”

“Indeed, the mercy of Allah is near to the doers of good.”

“There is not upon the doers of good any cause [for blame]. And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”

“O you who have believed, be conscious of Allah and believe in His Messenger; He will [then] give you a double portion of His mercy and make for you a light by which you will walk and forgive you; and Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.”

“But Allah would not punish them while you, [O Muhammad], are among them, and Allah would not punish them while they seek forgiveness.”

“Why do you not seek forgiveness of Allah that you may receive mercy?”

“If they repent, it is better for them.”

“Indeed, Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves.”

“And whatever of misfortune befalls you, it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much.”

“Verily! Allah will not change the good condition of a people as long as they do not change their state of goodness themselves (by committing sins and by being ungrateful and disobedient to Allah). But when Allah wills a people’s punishment, there can be no turning back of it, and they will find besides Him no protector.”
